Less snow than the shoreline, more freezing - which flips which guard makes sense.
The guard conversation inland is close to the opposite of the one on the lakeshore. In Sheboygan the governing worry is a snow slab catching on anything that stands proud. Here there is much less snow to slide, and the governing worry is what happens when a wet mesh freezes.
That matters because the fine micro-mesh products that handle small debris best are also the ones that ice over most readily. A mesh fine enough to stop seed and field chaff is fine enough that a film of water will bridge it, and once it does the water going into the gutter is whatever gets around the edge.
| Job | Typical Price |
|---|---|
| Single-story, standard run | $7 - $11 / linear ft. |
| Two-story, standard access | $9 - $14 / linear ft. |
| Steep or difficult access | $13 - $19+ / linear ft. |
For most Plymouth houses a slightly more open mesh or a good perforated screen is the right answer: coarse enough to shed an ice film rather than hold it, fine enough for the leaf and seed load here. That is a cheaper product than the micro-mesh we would specify under heavy pine elsewhere, which is a rare case of the better technical answer also being the less expensive one.
Where a property backs onto open farmland and takes real chaff loading, we go finer and accept that it will want a rinse in spring. That is a trade worth making knowingly rather than discovering in February.
$7-$11 per linear foot single-storey, $9-$14 two-storey, $13-$19 and up on steep access. And on the older stock near the square we check the fascia before quoting - a hundred-year-old board that has been carrying a sagging gutter may not want the extra load.
Fine micro-mesh can. A water film bridges the mesh and freezes, and then rain runs over the outside instead of through. A slightly more open mesh or a perforated screen sheds that film and is the better choice for most houses here.
Then we go finer, and you accept a spring rinse. That is a reasonable trade - it just wants deciding in advance rather than discovering in February when the water is going over the front.
$7-$19 per linear foot depending on product and access. The mesh most houses here want is at the cheaper end, which is not the usual direction for this kind of advice.
