Manitowoc's Victorian-era homes near the harbor and along Franklin Street sit right on the Lake Michigan shoreline, exposed to the same lake-effect snow squalls that hit Sheboygan, plus maple canopy that drops hard through the historic district every fall. Newer construction around Waldo Boulevard, further from the water, sees less severe buildup.
